MOTHER'S DAY GIFT IDEAS

Since Mother's Day is just around the corner, I thought it's the perfect time to do a little round up of my favourite Mother's day gifts. We don't really do big presents on Mother's day, but it's always nice to get some beautiful flowers and a card (and I'm not going to complain if I get a pretty scented candle too!)

I know many people struggle to find something new to give every year but I don't actually mind getting the same things year after year. I'm pretty sure that most mums would be thrilled with a card and flowers. Anyway, Mother's day should be all about spending some nice quality time together as a family, am I right? However, if you really want to impress someone this year, take a look at my favourite Mother's day gift ideas below!

1. FLOWERS

Leonie Bouquet from Bloom & Wild
I know this is an obvious one. I love having fresh flowers in the house, so a pretty bouquet is always a safe bet on Mother's Day. There are so many online companies delivering flowers straight to your door step these days but it's all about finding the supplier that you can count on, isn't it? I love using Bloom and Wild and Interflora. I especially find Bloom and Wild bouquets excellent value and they are always styled to perfection.

Don't forget that supermarkets have a fabulous selection of flowers to choose from as well. M&S and Sainsbury's flowers seem to last ages and I prefer to buy Fair Trade flowers which never seem to disappoint. Honestly, in my experience supermarket flowers last just as long as the ones from the florist. The key is to change the water daily and cut the stems once or twice a week (depending on the type of flowers you've got). Apparently sugar and (oddly) sprite seem to make them last longer too but I've never tried either. If you want to save money, but still buy an impressive bouquet, just buy two smaller bouquets and combine them into one with some extra foliage. It's so easy and I swear no one will ever know!

2. MACARONS VS. CHOCOLATES

Macarons by Laduree
This is the big debate with me these days. If you would have asked me 3 years ago I would have said chocolate. But these days I am definitely more of a maca-aholic! Laduree macarons are the best I've ever tasted, but they aren't exactly the cheapest ones out there. M&S macarons are almost just as good to be honest. I just wish they would have a wider selection of flavours available.

I also love pink champagne truffles from Charbonnel et Walker. They come in a cute pink box and the luxurious white chocolate with a hint of strawberry tastes absolutely divine. Perfect for Mother's day and with a glass of bubbly!

3. SCENTED CANDLES

I'm a total candle addict so scented candles are always a nice surprise. At the moment I'm loving the Figuier candle by Diptyque which I think is perfect for spring. I just adore the subtle, fresh scent of fig leaves. I would love to get the room spray too!

I do sometimes feel guilty for splashing out on luxury candles. I usually upcycle the jars and use them as mini vases so I can 'kind of' justify the purchase for myself. The truth is, luxury candles are an indulgence and I cannot say they are good value for money. We all know they are not. But I still buy them. It's so nice to light up a scented candle after the kids have gone to bed and unwind. It's almost like therapy! I buy lots of different brands though  - White Company, Rituals and British Parks Candles are all very good and much better value. I've seen many luxury candles also discounted in TK Maxx so do shop around.

4. MOMS ONE LINE A DAY - A FIVE-YEAR MEMORY BOOK

Moms One Line a Day by Amazon
Moms One Line a Day is probably one of the best presents I have ever received. It was actually my sister who gave it to me after I had my second baby. It makes a great gift, especially for new mums, although I think most mums with young children would love it just as much. It feels like time is flying when your children are young, so it's so nice to be able to sit down by the end of the day and write a few words down. I'm sure I'll hold onto this book forever and I can't wait to read it for my girls one day.

5. SWAROVSKI TEA LIGTH VOLTIVE

Swarovski Crystal Tea Light Holder
Most people are very familiar with Swarovski (and immediately associate the brand with jewellery) but not that many people realise that they do some of the most stunning home accessories as well. I was gifted this Swarovski crystal tealight candle holder last Christmas and I really had no idea that Swarovski are making such beautiful tea light holders these days. The candle holder looks even more beautiful once it's lit because the crystal base reflects light around the candle. The ring is reversible and can be placed with the crystal or the silver tone coated side facing upwards. It's truly a timeless piece, don't you think?

What's the most meaningful Mother's day present you have ever given or received?
